FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Voltage Controlled Suitcases:

  • Does Voltage Controlled Suitcases come with a power supply?
  • Not at the moment no. We’re looking for suppliers to be able to offer power supplies in the future but nothing is decided yet.
  • Which power supply do you recommend?
  • It depends on the case and on your needs. There are a lot of manufacturers out there to choose from and new products appear all the time. In our own case we’ve used the TipTop uZeus with flying bus boards. Flying bus boards are handy when space is limited since you can put them wherever there is room, but be sure to fasten it to the bottom of the case with Velcro so it doesn’t move around. Also make sure to cover empty connectors to avoid short circuits.
  • How sturdy are Voltage Controlled Suitcases?
  • Not very. Voltage Controlled Suitcases are built from old suitcases and briefcases. They are not flight cases. We build Voltage Control Suitcases this way because we love the way synths look in suitcases. You can of course transport your modular in our cases but keep in mind that the case itself can sometimes be 30 years old or more! Please be careful!
  • Are all cases used?
  • Yes, most of our cases are ”pre-owned”. Some more than others. We’re sourcing most of our cases from thrift shops and goodwill. Some will have scratches, some will smell weird and some will look pretty strange. But all of them have personality and are chosen because they will add that ”other” dimension to your modular!
  • How do I buy a case from you?
  • For now you just email us and we will figure it out. Once we go 100% live you will be able to purchase our cases from Escape from Noise and Jam (both in Sweden).
  • Will you offer 1U modules to fill out the gap?
  • We would like to, and we’re looking into it but developing modules is a long process. If this case business works out we will!
  • I would like to customise a case, is that possible?
  • It depends on what you want to do and what you’re prepared to pay, but nothing is impossible. Get in touch and we’ll figure it out.
  • I want to build my own case, how do I do it?
  • Great idea, building your own modular case can be great fun! You can find a lot of instructions online if you google for something like ”DIY Eurorack Case”.
  • When are you going 100% live?
  • We don’t know, hopefully sooner than later!
  • Will my modules fit?
  • Good question! We try our best to state the ”installation depth” for all our cases. The installation depth is the total depth and you need to leave room for cables and bus boards to power the modules. In shallow cases a flexible bus board can be tucked away where there is room. Example image showing the limited installation depth.
  • What stand do you recommend?
  • We’ve used the K&M acoustic guitar stand. It’s cheap, sturdy and rubber coated to protect your case. And it folds up flat when you’re not using it. If you can find a vintage one even better.
